Module 1 "Training Methodology" and Module 3 "Bonus Learning Material" are actually primarily made up of video lessons in conjunction with text-based reading modules, but for this one I want to get you started with some simple definitions that you will absolutely need to know moving forward.

Compound Lifts and Accessory Work are the basis for how you will be utilizing your new Workout Enhancement Tool, so while the remainder of this Hero Course is extremely important (especially progressive overload), you will need to know this in order to make sense of the rest to come! :)

COMPOUND LIFTS:

Compound Lifts are exercises that work multiple muscle groups at the same time.

For example: a squad is a compound exercise that works quads, glutes, calves and more!

A chin up is also a compound lift, but for the sake of our training at SHJ we usually revolve our methodology around the four big compound lifts (and variations of them):

Squats
Deadlifts
Shoulder Press
Bench Press

These can be broken down into Incline Dumbbell Press, Seated Military Press (or even Arnold Press), Goblet Squats, Front Squats, Bulgarian Split Squats, DB Deadlifts, and so many other variations.

So be aware of swaps when going through SHJ routines and needing to specifically pull out the compound lift to work around.

ACCESSORY LIFTS/ACCESSORY WORK:

Accessory Lifts or Accessory Work for the sake of your training at SHJ and using your Workout Enhancement Tool are any lifts or exercises that are NOT your main lifts.

This seems simple, but it will make much more sense once you learn how to utilize your Workout Enhancement Tool :)

SUMMARY:

Your Workout Enhancement Tool revolves around first choosing your Compound Lift Style and then choosing your Accessory Work Lifting Style or Styles.

You will learn more about why and how to choose the different styles later in Module 2, but being aware fo what we define Compound Lifts and Accessory Lifts as will help you better understand the rest of this course.
